Toa Vahi could remember little of who he once was. There were flashes—images—visions of the past as indecipherable as his visions of the future: a city, a mask-maker, a Toa in green… all falling, falling, forever out of his reach. Whoever he was before he became the mask—whatever he was—he’d failed. There was nothing left… not even his name. There was only time.
I always felt like there was more to the Mask of Time than the story let on. In another universe, I imagine that Vakama hesitated for a moment too long when Matau tried to save him during the Hordika arc, and ended up wracked with guilt for letting him die. After he was cured, he reclaimed the Vahi and tried to use it to undo his mistakes. He eventually succeeded in unlocking its full potential, but prolonged exposure to the energies of time unwraveled his memories and destroyed his identity. Now, he wanders through the past, present, and future as Toa Vahi, Lord of Time, saving those he deems worthy and protecting history from this who would seek to tamper with it.
