Let’s play “count the illegal moves“. I don’t like Duke and I’ll be the first to say their football team is shit, but either the refs drank their lunch or they were taking payoffs from Miami because these were some bullshit calls or lack thereof. The play should’ve been stopped on several separate penalties. One player was on his knees before the throw at one point ffs. That ball was dead. The coach’s face at the end says it all 😂

I actually just looked up the NCAA rulebook. There’s no limitation to backwards passes regarding under/overhand. There’s only one which MIGHT be a forwards pass, but they throw off-camera so I can’t see it. The one guy who falls is going down, and I’d certainly have challenged that, but it could have also been ruled a fumble…

It’s a ludicrous play, but There Ain’t No Rule.

The lateral passing isn’t the problem, it’s the blocking and the continuing to treat it as a live ball after the player was down. The refs were literally suspended for missing the calls.
