There was a picture I saw the other week, of a midwife nursing her own little baby after helping a woman birth and nurse her own newborn. And this was taken in the WEST, where babies and work are constantly at war in our society. It gave me the peace and assurance needed that, yes: I can be a midwife and have the babies God is calling me to have. That my instinct of babies and work being more compatible than our industrialized nations let on is very much a possibility that we should achieve.
I can’t wait for the day that work comes second to family. It is the only way we can respond to poor maternal health, the crisis of troubled and broken homes, and the many social ills that women face just because they chose to keep their pregnancies.
