Another problem is their steady refusal to really build up to something. Why do you think Justice League tanked by comparison to the Avengers movie? Marvel didn’t just drop Infinity War on us out of nowhere, they took 10 years to establish the characters. DC does things ass backwards, introducing major characters in films that already have a lot of characters and expecting us to give a shit. Now they’re showing Robin on screen for the first time since the 90s and the first thing out of his mouth is “fuck Batman“? What the hell? Even if you want to give us an edgy reboot of Grayson that has a major beef with Batman, you have to build to this shit.
It would be like if Marvel never made Civil War and the next time you saw Cap he was just like “fuck Tony Stark!“ for no apparent reason.
To me, the real problem with Warner Bros. and how they’re treating DC is that they want to be the more mature and adult franchise (compared to Marvel), but somewhere along the line they mistranslated “mature adult” to mean “angsty teenage edgelord”.
