You have no idea what contributes to the hardships any individual faces by looking at their skin color. The world isn’t that simple as much as people like you would like it to be.
>skin color making people’s lives “””hard”””
“No white person in America has ever faced problems because of their skin color. It’s not like white people have disadvantages when it comes to college admissions and affirmative action, right?”
I just… You know I really am sick of ‘Being treated as a person should be treated’ being termed as a ‘privilege’. Like, that’s some guilt trip shit right there. ‘You get treated as a normal human being, and you should CHECK YOURSELF FOR IT!’ seems to be a common ass refrain.
Well, one half of a common refrain, because the other half thinks there actually IS a privilege attached to being white, that things are given to you for free.
Most things on “privilege” checklists are just things everyone should expect from others, and it’s not helping to fix the problems of discrimination if we deem basic human decency as some kind of unearned benefit of being the in-group instead of the default.
Guilt tripping others for not being oppressed or miserable is so backwards. I guess misery loves company.
