The majority of people with myopia have it from looking at screens and written text too often during their childhoods.

Some of the problems people assume existed undiagnosed in antiquity just didn’t exist.

Given that an ass ton of people who wear glasses and have from most of their lives are well into their 50s and did not in fact grow up looking at screens I’m inclined to doubt this.

Hell even I was born in the 90s and I didn’t grow up looking at screens because cell phones weren’t common until I was in my teens and I only had limited computer time.

Now I have heard that exposure to sunlight has a big effect on retinal development and in the age of people spending more time inside cases of myopia increased but I would have to research that further.

There’s no way it’s entirely environmental because there’s definitely some eye problems that are genetic. And glasses have been around long before children were reading.

Oh no definitely not entirely environmental, but I do think there are some environmental factors that have an effect on the frequency in which it appears. I’m sure some studies have been done on tribal communities and how common myopia is for them.
