My liberal friends are complaining that there’s no exceptions for medical necessity and direct threat to the mother’s health/ life.

Right, because abortion is never necessary to save the mother’s life. Other medical interventions, sure! And those are perfectly legal, no matter what the pro-choice rhetoric says. 

Abortion kills a child. We don’t need “exceptions” to a ban on killing children.
