This is why I spent a decade dropping my Appalachian accent to a more neutral lighter indistinguishable southern accent so people would take me seriously and not write me off as a dumb hick just because of how I sound or what euphemisms I use when I speak

I’ve been told I have no accent, yet people still are surprised when they learn I’m from Appalachia.
