why is it that whenever a Christian character or a church is portrayed on a (non-period drama) show or movie, 96% of the time they’re Catholic? like……that’s not the only denomination out there. I can understand when it’s accurate to the setting for it to be Catholic, but I rarely see Protestant characters or churches portrayed on TV, and when I do, they’re rarely portrayed well and it’s quite frustrating.
Where there is a protestant character they’re written to be watered down Catholics or Hollywood’s mouthpiece.
Let’s be honest the character that is “catholic” is usually as Catholic as a bowl of soup
That right there is the ol, “Christian is Catholic” trope and it exists usually cause the trappings are distinctive enough, Confession is a quick way to get inner thoughts out, and it’s the largest denom so (in foreign entertainment at least) it’s considered the most seen. And yes, most of those Catholics on screen are depicted as watered down Catholics themselves as well and aren’t portrayed well.
