Phew: still more a democracy than the left and right news media let on. Voted for three local and state-level Democrats this year. And the Democratic candidate for state AG is a seriously sober thinker on criminal justice reform. For instance, he wants to abolish bail, reasoning that either a crime is a threat to public safety and its suspects should stay in jail no matter what, or it’s not a threat to public safety and suspects can be released on their own recognizance without need for a bribe. (And failure-to-appear IS considered a threat to public safety under this scheme.) Unless you count running mates, this is the first year I can say I voted for a wise statesman, not just someone with comparatively better policy.
