Nobody’s Coming for Your Guns

Barack Obama used to famously mock gun rights advocates with a sneering dismissal of their fears that things like gun registries and background checks were preludes to bans and confiscations. “Nobody’s coming for you guns,” was an oft-repeated mantra of Obama and gun control advocates. “We just want sensible gun laws.”

Fast forward to the 2018 midterms, and wow, how things have changed. The national discussion on gun control has taken a major turn away from proposing “common sense gun laws” and toward demanding outright bans, confiscations, and even overturning our constitutional right to bear arms.

A lot of people are saying “I told you so” right now. But nobody should be surprised by the abrupt turnabout. It’s not the first time politicians and pundits have abandoned their positions seemingly overnight.

Democrats just a couple years ago were tough on illegal immigration. Now they are doing everything in their power to make sure it continues.

Republicans one election cycle ago ran on reining in the ballooning debt and government spending. Yet now they are trumpeting their newly passed budget expansion as a major success.

And both parties not long ago promised to preserve the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman. Today, not so much.

No matter where you stand on those issues, the point is that promises from either side are worthless in politics. And now we’ve got a retired Supreme Court Justice, a DNC Vice Chairwoman, the media, and much of America’s indoctrinated youth confirming our long-held suspicions.

Yes, they are coming for your guns.
