Democrats Demanded an FBI Investigation. Now That’s Not Good Enough
It’s almost as if this was all just one huge sham to further delay the confirmation…
I apologize, I generally keep my private messages private…unless they are by some smug snot who decides to try to make what they assume is a clever remark and then follow it up by immediately blocking me like a coward.
After lecturing me about how they are intellectually superior to me in every way because they supposedly have a masters degree in political science (I weep for his/her parents) @kindabraveandlittlestupid referenced this particular post above to illustrate how my “rhetoric lacks gravity.”
You would think with all that bought education in politics, that his/her professors would have at least explained or mentioned once or twice what this supposed “FBI investigation” – which Democrats have been feverishly clamoring for – actually entails.
Despite what Democrats have played this up in the press and during the confirmation hearings to be, the FBI “investigation” is not an actual criminal investigation whatsoever. That’s why it is limited in scope and in time frame. There is no real crime to even investigate, and even if there was it would not be in the federal jurisdiction of the FBI anyway. This allegation took place over three decades ago, on an unspecified date, at an unnamed location, with zero corroborating evidence or witnesses. The FBI can only do what it has the authority to do in the first place, and which it has already done six separate times
specifically
to Brett Kavanaugh, which is to conduct a thorough background check on him. That is it.
And as Sen. Joe Biden even put it, the FBI does not even make a final judgment on the fitness of Kavanaugh as a Justice – that is still the constitutional duty of the Senate to advise-and-consent. They already had more power in this regard to “investigate” the nominee than the FBI does. And they did plenty, as former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy puts it in National Review: “The Senate has more information about this nominee than it has had about any judicial nominee in history.
Kavanaugh attended private meetings with 65 senators, gave 31 hours of testimony at the initial round of hearings, and responded to over 1,200 written questions — more post-hearing questions than all prior Supreme Court nominees combined. When Christine Blasey Ford’s uncorroborated, highly dubious claim of a 36-year-old sexual assault arose, he provided hours more of compelling testimony, denying the allegations and masterfully marshaling the evidence that demonstrates the incredibility of Ford’s allegation.
There is already more information than is needed — mountains more — for the Senate to vote.”
The funny thing is that all the Senate Democrats already knew this too. This is precisely what they wanted and through their big show in the hearing and in the media, they played many American citizens like a fiddle. That’s something the Democrats have always been good at. Before the hearing even took place, Democrats were already proudly declaring that they were not only not going to vote to confirm Kavanaugh anyway, but that they were going to try to stop him at all costs. That means stalling as long as they can.
And so, at the eleventh hour, Sen. Dianne Feinstein finally chose to release the hidden card up her sleeve in the form of an alleged sexual assault by the nominee from over 30 years ago. And after the huge circus of a hearing on the matter, when there was no real credible evidence after more investigations and open testimony by both the victim and the alleged assailant, they knew they had no real substantial case against the nominee.
So, they decided to stall even more by asking for another FBI background check (thanks to the feckless Jeff Flake) which would only buy them another week. Now, as the video above illustrates, they have moved on to the next stalling measure by trying to broaden the scope of the investigation so they can try to build up more ridiculous accusations against Kavanaugh such as impugning his character, claiming he’s a blackout drunk, or that he threw ice in a bar fight.
Even Sen. Bernie Sanders was recently called out by Sen. Chuck Grassley over this pathetic ploy. They are desperate and they are dead set on ruining this man’s career, character, and maybe even his family in order to stop him getting in the Supreme Court. That’s why the Republicans need to give their collective sack a tug and bring him up for the vote this week, because they will not get another chance come November. Let Mike Pence be the tie-breaker if it comes down to it.
So, I hope that suitably educates you on the matter, @kindabraveandlittlestupid. Apt blog title, by the way.
