Hi, NB feminist here. I’m willing to bet that people who actually give two shits about the characters being “straight white males” are very few in number. I mean heck, the popularity of cartoons from Japan shows that the “white” part is pretty unimportant to overseas viewers, and shows with female leads have long been popular.

The issue is when all the characters are is some sort of label. When they’re not CHARACTERS but rather some sort of Woke Point or quota.

Like let’s use a live action example here, the 2016 Ghostbusters. Nobody cared that it had a female cast. But when the trailer looked sub-par and people noted that, the team behind it accused everyone of “oh you just hate female-led movies and independent women” and proceeded to turn what had been legitimate complaints into stories of a “harassment campaign”. They didn’t care about having an action movie with a female cast. They wanted a female cast they could hide behind to get away with making a sub-par film. You see the difference?
