Well his acting career is pretty much kaput. He’s ready for his virtue signalling slacktivism.
Well, from what little seems to actually have been said he seems to be talking sense for once instead of spouting anti-vaxxer horseshit. All I can find is “Say yes to socialism” and “We need to stop apologizing”
both of which I’m all for. Assuming he means “Fix our highways and enough with the white guilt” that is.
1. There is nothing wrong with apologizing for something if you are actually truly sorry for any wrong or error you have committed.
2. Socialism is not the government confiscation and redistribution of income created in the free market to fund infrastructure, public services, entitlements, or other public works projects. Socialism is the collective ownership and distribution of the means of production. That said, they both are terrible, both in practice and in theory.
1. Indeed. If someone tells me to apologize after I spilled coffee on them, I’d do that. If someone tells me to pay reparations for antebellum slavery, I’ll tell them where they can shove it.
2. That’s Marxist Socialism you’re talking about. Not all socialism is Marxist because socialism isn’t a single ideology or economic model, it’s a broad category and spectrum of them that encompasses things ranging from failed models like in huge swaths of Latin America, to successful models like in most of Scandinavia.
Note how I said “assuming”. If Jim was, for example, saying we should embrace Marxism and we shouldn’t feel bad if we spill coffee on people, yeah he can fuck off. But I can’t find the full interview so when I gave my my two cents, I stated which interpretation of that statement I’d support.
1. Fair enough.
2. Marxist socialism is the primary ideological root system of all redistribution policies implemented in every country today, especially European statist welfare models. Scandinavian (or Nordic) “socialism” is not successful because of its redistributive elements, but despite them. Their success has more to do with the economic reforms they instilled by freeing economic growth and reducing government spending. I have actually posted several short videos on that exact subject just recently that are worth a quick watch.
And yes, Jim Carrey believes that “socialism” is government redistribution of income in exchange for public works and entitlements. He shares this with a lot of other clueless leftists who throw around the term “socialism” in a positive manner, because apparently it has become synonymous with good government stuff. This is probably by design because the goal of all socialism – whether it be democratic socialism, communism, fascism, social democracy, etc – is to slowly (or quickly in some cases) confiscate the product, means of production, and wealth created by the free enterprise system, then replace private ownership and voluntary exchange with some kind of collective ownership and exchange system. The varying degrees of how it is implemented is usually based on trial and error; but inevitably the more you remove the voluntary free market exchange aspect of the equation the more quickly the “system” fails.
