Reparations

Okay, so reparations.  Slavery ended 153 years ago, as we record this, and you’re saying that something that happened six or seven generations ago to your great great great great great great grandparents, I owe you money for because of something that my great great great great great great grandparents did.  But they didn’t do it, because they weren’t in America during slavery.  My family came over in 1915.  And by the way, if that reparations thing goes back that far does that mean that every single American black in the country has to write a check to every single American Jew for all of the years that the Egyptians kept the Jews in slavery several thousand years ago?   Doesn’t that sound ridiculous to you? 

Here’s the entire point.  If you go back into my history, your history, George Washington’s history, Donald Trump’s history, David Duke’s history you will find that every single person on planet Earth at one time or another is descended from a slave.  The Angles kept Saxons for slaves, the Normans kept the Angles for slaves, the Franks and the Gauls, everybody kept slaves over everybody.  Why don’t we stop worrying about what happened hundreds of thousands of years ago and start thinking about our common future together?
