A smart step towards lowering abortion rates is to make birth control easier to get, thank you Washington, Oregon, DC, and California

Yo that is dangerous as he’ll you can doe from taking birth control if you have certain medical conditions. I am mandated to get a pap every year just to keep my perception which is a hastle but atleast I’m safe. This is the worst plan I’ve heard so far

No where does it ban or restrict going to a medical professional if you so choose

I mean if you have a medical condition you should definetly go to the doctor before taking any sort of medicine but I thought that was just common sense 🤷🏼‍♀️

you should consult a doctor before starting new medication

People who are already on and are familiar with thier medication may not need to consult a doctor every time they want a refill

Wait do people not realize how hard birthcontrol can fuck with your body?

Changes nothing

Danger negates nothing

You don’t get to choose for other women

What if a woman doesn’t understand the nature of birth control? Has a condition she’s unaware of, or one she is aware of which she doesn’t know is affected by birth control? Then this idea can pose a danger to her. There is a reason why certain drugs require a doctor’s visit, and it isn’t “choosing for women” or restricting her freedom to get them. It’s just a public health concern.

Getting a refill is one thing. But a 16 year old starting a hormonal treatment she’s not quite familiar with because all she knows is that it prevents pregnancy? A 20 year old purchasing it because her boyfriend is pressuring her and she didn’t care to research the risks?

Someone I knew had a high risk for stroke. Her father and grandfather died from stroke. She never drank or smoked, was extremely healthy and ate well. Was forced by her husband to use birth control after the birth of her first child. Not a few weeks into her infant’s life, she did have a stroke and die. I won’t say that birth control is responsible because it’s not, but it’s silly to think it had no influence.

It’s a serious treatment with serious risks and needs a doctor’s review.

They also quite literally try to force it on children. In the state of Florida, one that hasn’t even proposed making it available without a prescription, my doctor tried to pressure me to keep my medical information secret from my mother when I was only 14. They did the same to my sister. Before I had even started my period a doctor told me that I could get birth control, STD testing, and an abortion if I wanted (on my parents’ insurance of course) without ever telling my parents. When I joked “I’d, rather you be the one to tell her than me” they made sure I knew they meant I didn’t have to tell her anything at all. All while being completely ignorant of my family history with various birth control related issues. They tried to pressure me into taking something I didn’t even need or want that could have done permanent damage to me.

When you’re a dumb kid, as I was, being told by a doctor that you should go get something is probably going to be enough to satisfy you and leave you thinking it’s safe for you. It’s not until you have to get an actual prescription that they start asking you the real questions to see if you can actually take it or not.

The informal go ahead from a doctor who didn’t actually examine you is enough convincing for most teenagers, and, at least in the state of Florida, they are, by law, all getting the same talk I did.

OP literally doesn’t care if women get maimed or even killed from unnecessary birth control usage???
